From the New President... Roger, KE5CCJ
WELCOME TO THE FANNIN COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB WEBSITE!
We are pleased to
have you as a guest on our website. The Fannin County Amateur Radio Club
welcomes all licensed ham operators in the area to join in with a group of ham
operators who genuinely enjoy our club, not only for the obvious interest we all
share in ham radio and its many varied aspects and modes, but also enjoy the
fellowship of a great group of guys and gals, most of whom call Fannin County
home. We have seen a large increase in licensed hams in our area in the past
three years, thanks to the tireless efforts of many in our club who have
assisted with recruiting, teaching and testing efforts. A special thanks to our
Fannin County Office of Emergency Management. Many of our new hams became
interested in radio after taking the training classes for the Community
Emergency Response Teams (CERT).
We also want to do everything we can to assist anyone who wants to get started
as a beginner in amateur radio. Our club usually offers training for the
Technician license twice a year, and we are in contact with other groups in the
area that also offer classes. We will help you through this learning process,
and after you pass your test, we have many experienced folks who can help you
with buying equipment and setting up your "ham shack." The sky can be the
limit when buying equipment for your station, but a new ham operator can get on
the air with a very modest financial investment.
Our club has assisted with communication needs in various civic events, and we
have also responded when needed for severe weather or other emergency
communication issues. During 2007 we plan to upgrade and expand our capability
to respond for any emergency communication needs, and we are already working
closely with our county emergency management on this project.
Our current officers and their email addresses are listed in the Club
Information section of this website. Please contact any of us with any questions
concerning our club or about ham radio in general. We especially want to hear
from you if you want to get started in this wonderful hobby/service.
Sincerely,
Roger Ashcraft KE5CCJ
